Orthopedic Surgery

Surgical care across every orthopedic sub-specialty.

ION's surgical network covers the full orthopedic spectrum — performed by board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons at ASC and hospital-grade facilities across Chicagoland.

Surgical rigor. Legal-medicine documentation.

ION's surgeons are fellowship-trained across every major orthopedic sub-specialty. Founding partner Dr. Irvin Wiesman, MD is board certified in General Surgery and Hand Surgery with fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery at Washington University in St. Louis — and continues to teach in Chicago-area residency programs. The surgical roster continues to grow, with every physician held to the same standard of operative quality and documentation rigor.

Integrated before surgery. ION patients are evaluated by the appropriate orthopedic sub-specialist, imaged in-network, and cleared for surgery through pre-operative workups that match the complexity of the procedure. Pre-authorization with WC carriers and commercial insurers is coordinated at intake — no last-minute authorization denials on the day of surgery.

Integrated after surgery. Post-operative care transitions seamlessly into in-network physical therapy and pain management — so the full recovery arc lives in one case file. For WC cases, the return-to-work and permanency-rating assessments at Maximum Medical Improvement are completed by the treating surgeon or an appropriate network physician, documented to AMA Guides standards.

Documentation that holds up. Operative reports, pre-op consultations, post-op follow-up notes, and functional capacity evaluations are all formatted for legal review. Counsel requesting records for deposition or demand package receives a complete surgical narrative — not a pile of disconnected charts.
